Richard Palmiter to become Biochemistrys acting chair Dr. Richard Palmiter will become acting chair of the School of Medicines Department of Biochemistry, effective Feb. 1. He is a professor of biochemistry and an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Kenneth Walsh has served as chair of the department since 1992, and was acting chair for two years previously. Palmiter is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. A pioneer in transgenic research, Palmiter uses this and other genetic techniques to study the role of neuromodulators in the development and function of the mammalian nervous system. ¶ University Week The faculty and staff publication of the University of Washington uweek@u.washington.edu January 6, 2000
