STEW-PENDOUS: The Washington Sea Grant Program is exploring the last 100 years of the state’s oyster culture with a new “Oyster Stew” Web site. Visitors to the site can access an electronic timeline of significant oyster events and a wealth of helpful information ranging from recipes to a slide show. Visitors can even order oysters from the site. Visit the site at http://www.wsg.washington.edu and click “New.”

RESOURCE REIGN BEGINS: William R. Morton, the director of the Regional Primate Research Center and a professor of comparative medicine at the UW, has been appointed to a four-year term on the National Advisory Research Resources Council. The council advises on matters related to development and support of health-related research resources.

HONORED EDUCATOR: The McGraw-Hill Companies recently honored John I. Goodlaw, UW professor emeritus and co-director for the Center of Educational Renewal, with the 1999 Harold W. McGraw Jr. Prize in Education. The award is given to “leaders in education whose innovative thinking and indomitable spirit inspire us all to achieve a higher level in educating young people.”

KUDOS: Charles Keyes, professor of anthropology, is the new president-elect of national Association for Asian Studies . . . Governor Gary Locke recently appointed Andrea Copping, Assistant Director of the Washington Sea Grant Program, to the Northwest Straits Citizens Advisory Commission . . . UW Executive Vice President Weldon Ihrig spoke at a Greater Seattle Daughters of the American Revolution Regents Council, honoring the 200th anniversary of the death of George Washington . . . Conway Leovy, a University of Washington emeritus professor of atmospheric sciences and geophysics, has been awarded the Gerard P. Kuiper Prize for 2000 by the Division for Planetary Sciences of the American Astronomical Society. ¶
