Inventory details UW’s An inventory of K-12 outreach programs to underrepresented students is available from the Office of Educational Partnerships. The inventory is included in the “UW Diversity Outreach Programs: Planning Guide,” which was created in order to better understand the University’s current K-12 outreach efforts to underrepresented students, and the opportunities for expanding and enhancing these initiatives. The Planning Guide has two sections. The first section provides almost 50 examples of programs for students and educators, categorized by college or unit. This section of the guide is intended to provide readers with a better understanding of the range and complexity of outreach to students, as well as the professional development opportunities for teachers who work with underrepresented minorities. A second section includes information on more than 500 schools in more than 60 public K-12 districts in Washington with which the UW established partnerships - ongoing, consistent programmatic relationships with a college, department or unit - during the 1998-99 school year. The listing is not limited to programs that are focused on diversity but also includes programs whose scope and impact is so extensive that they are likely to affect many aspects of education, including diversity. The guide is intended to be a useful resource for faculty and staff in academic and administrative units who are engaged, or hope to become engaged, in efforts to promote diversity in education. For copies of the report, contact Roseann London in the Office of Educational Partnerships, 616-2181. ¶ Bob Roseth, News & Information University Week The faculty and staff publication of the University of Washington uweek@u.washington.edu January 27, 2000
