Central funding to help
campus leadership program
A fledgling program for leaders, supervisors and managers at the UW has been granted centralized funding.
The Strategic Leadership Program will provide staff and faculty with practical tools and resources for use in their roles as leaders within organizations.
The program, scheduled to begin in September, will be developed and administered by UW Training and Development and will provide relevant core and elective training, topical seminars, and reference information.
“We’re gearing the program to target several trends and issues present at the University and in higher education in general,” said Beth Warrick, Training and Development Manager.
The Strategic Leadership Program will be a shift from the leadership training courses previously offered by Training and Development, according to Jessie Garcia, the coordinator for the program.
“It’s a much more comprehensive offering than we’ve been able to provide in the past, which is due in large part to the centralized funding,” she said.
Individuals and departments participating in the program will see a more direct benefit from the funding, particularly those with tight budgets.
“Previously, all of our leadership training was sustained solely by individual or departmental registration fees,” Warrick said.
