Szatmary named vice provost

David Szatmary, who has been serving as acting vice provost of the University of Washington’s educational outreach unit, was recently named vice provost.

Szatmary was the associate vice provost from 1987 to 1999. During the summer of 1999 he took over for Dick Lorenzen and had been serving as acting vice provost since.

As vice provost he will supervise 150 employees in the UW extension, summer quarter and evening degree programs. The three programs collectively enroll about 50,000 students each year.

Szatmary has a Ph.D. and a master’s degree in American history from Rutgers University. He has a bachelor’s from Marquette University. ¶
