Subject of The Insider film to speak: The UW Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and the American Lung Association of Washington will present a free public forum featuring Dr. Jeffrey S. Wigand, who became the tobacco industrys highest-ranking former executive to address issues of smoking and public health. The forum will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15, in room 210 of Kane Hall. Today, Wigand is the founder and president of Smoke-Free Kids, a nonprofit organization. Dr. Barbara Trask, professor of molecular biotechnology, has been named acting chair of her department. An active genetics researcher, Trask has been vice chair of the department. She has used fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) techniques to locate olfactory receptor genes in more than 40 locations on the genome. Trask joined the UW in 1992. She received a B.S. in wildlife ecology and an M.S. degree from Purdue University. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Leiden in Holland in 1985 for her flow cytometric analyses of chromosomes and nuclei.
