UW Medical Center names Susan Grant chief nursing officer; arriving April 1

Susan Grant has been named to the position of chief nursing officer/associate administrator for UW Medical Center, effective April 1.

Grant is currently the chief of nursing and patient care services at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. She also has responsibility for the Bone Marrow Transplant, Oncology and Hematology units at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

“Given the reputations of UWMC and the UW Schools of Nursing and Medicine, we were able to attract many qualified candidates,” said Kathleen Sellick, UWMC chief operating officer. “We received over 100 resumes for this position and interviewed 30 people. After interviewing the top three candidates with the assistance of many representatives from the medical center, the School of Medicine and Nancy Woods, dean of the School of Nursing, Susan emerged as the top candidate.”

Grant joined Dana-Farber in 1992 and has been in her present position for the past four years. She worked previously at the Medical University of South Carolina and Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

She has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia, a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina and has begun her doctoral studies at the University of Massachusetts. She was also a Johnson and Johnson/Wharton fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Program for Nurse Executives.

“Given the breadth of her experience and her solid commitment to the professional practice of nursing, Susan will provide tremendous leadership to our already outstanding nursing division,” Sellick said. “She will also work with Dean Woods to further expand our relationship with the School of Nursing.” ¶
