Vote could alter Faculty Code,
change promotion procedures

The University of Washington Faculty Senate passed Class A legislation on March 2 that would alter the Faculty Code.

The measure is intended to provide increased involvement by faculty in the tenure and promotion process. Passage of the measure means the legislation will be submitted to eligible faculty for a vote. That voting process will begin by March 17 and will be completed by no later than Friday, April 7.

As it stands now, the measure would add four paragraphs and alter one. The legislation was discussed in greater depth in the Feb. 24 University Week, and its full text is available on the Web at http://www.washington.edu/faculty/facsenate/announce/promotion.htm.

In order to become part of the Faculty Code, the legislation must be approved by a majority of the voting faculty or by two thirds of those voting faculty who cast ballots. ¶
