85 staff members nominated for Distinguished Staff Award

The third annual Distinguished Staff Awards program produced a record number of nominees. A total of 85 nominations, twice as many as last year’s 40 nominations, were received by the February 11 deadline.

“We tried to encourage people to renominate those co-workers they had nominated in previous years,” said Karen Long, Chair of the DSA Committee, “and apparently that helped. So many talented and dedicated staff at the UW were nominated in the first three years of the program, and only a few can be awarded the DSA each year.”

The Distinguished Staff Awards Program, established in 1997, focuses special attention on exceptional performance by University of Washington classified and professional staff.

“It is truly inspiring to read all of the nomination letters for each and every nominee - and very difficult for a committee to narrow a list down to just a few award winners,” said Long.

Five UW staff members will be formally recognized for their extraordinary contributions to the University. These finalists will be notified personally by President McCormick.

The awards will be presented at the annual Recognition Reception ceremonies for faculty and staff on Thursday, June 8. In addition, each award recipient will receive a $5,000 cash award.
