Swanson to chair Family and Child Nursing

Dr. Kristen M. Swanson has been appointed chair of the Department of Family and Child Nursing in the School of Nursing.

Swanson, an associate professor of nursing, is internationally recognized for her research into the emotional care of women who have experienced miscarriage. She is currently studying how women in the Shoalwater Bay tribe respond to miscarriage. She came to the UW in 1985 as a postdoctoral fellow and is an expert in qualitative research methods.

Swanson holds a Ph.D. in psychosocial nursing from the University of Colorado and is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.

She has served as chair of the School of Nursing’s Faculty Council and on the UW Faculty Senate, and is currently a member of the Faculty Senate’s Planning and Budget Committee. ¶
