Dr. D. Daniel Hunt, the School of Medicine’s associate dean for academic affairs, has been named president-elect of the International Health Medical Education Consortium (IHMEC). He will assume the organization’s presidency at the February 2001 conference in Honduras. Hunt has developed exchange programs with several medical schools in China as these schools move toward a more Western style of teaching. He is also a consultant for an effort to develop a curriculum model for continuing education in isolated islands in the Pacific Basin. The consortium was founded in 1991 by a group of medical school educators and other academicians to strengthen teaching of international health at all levels of medical education. It has established a network of clinical opportunities overseas, and has defined stronger career tracks for medical residents and students in international health.
