UNIVERS-AL GRANT: Guillermo Gonzalez, a UW research assistant professor in astronomy, is among 15 scientists worldwide who will share in $1 million in grants from the John Temple-ton Foundation of Radnor, Pa. The grants are for innovative research that will clarify and measure the extent to which the universe can be said to be “fine-tuned” to support life. Gonzalez, whose Templeton grant totals $58,000 over three years, works to characterize the properties of planets that recently have been discovered outside the solar system.

KUDOS: Associate Dean of Public Affairs Patrick Dobel’s book on ethics and public policy, Public Integrity, was recently published by Johns Hopkins Press. ¶
