Plastic surgery research group to meet on campus

The Plastic Surgery Research Council will hold its 45th annual meeting in Seattle next week, May 17 through 20, hosted by the UW Department of Surgery and Division of Plastic Surgery. The local committee is chaired by Dr. Nicholas Vedder, associate professor of plastic surgery and orthopaedics.

While most of the meeting will be at the Westin Hotel, a morning session has been scheduled at the UW on Thursday, May 18, beginning at 8 a.m. in Hogness Auditorium at the Health Sciences Center.

Members of the UW community are welcome to attend this session, which is designed to showcase the UW environment for the national audience. The speakers, in the order they are scheduled, include:

  • Dr. Mary-Claire King, UW professor of medicine and genetics, speaking on ‘Human Genetics and Human Rights: Genomics and the Search for the Disappeared,”
  • Dr. John Harlan, UW professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Hematology, on “Adhesion Biology: Past, Present and Future,” and
  • Steven Sinofsky, vice president of Microsoft, on “Where Does a Software Product Like Microsoft Office Come from and How Do We Build It?”
