Last year’s commencement featured a new accessory - cell phones to call mom and dad to tell them where you’re sitting.

Astronomy Professor Paula Szkody met about 20 freshmen from Seattle’s Franklin High School last week in the UW Planetarium as part of an outreach program developed by UW undergraduates to encourage more minority and disadvantaged students to attend college. The students will be followed throughout their high school years. It is part of the Partnerships for a Seamless Education, a UIF-funded project in the Office of Minority Affairs.

School of Art students display work at UW Medical Center - “Aesculapian Bench,” by Kevin Lessig, is one of several works displayed in May. The snake design is made of pills, and the name refers to the Greek god of medicine. The display was part of an ongoing collaboration between the UWMC Art Program and the Public Art Program, directed by Professor John Young, at the school. Photo by Gavin Sisk.
