The annual summer series of lectures and workshops on Biomedical Research Integrity, sponsored by the School of Medicines Office of Research and Graduate Education, will begin next week. The series includes three lectures open to all health sciences faculty, students and staff. On Thursday, July 13, Dr. Daniel Dorsa, associate dean for research and graduate education in the School of Medicine, and Dr. John Slattery, director of the UWs Office of Scholarly Integrity and associate dean for academic programs in the Graduate School, will speak on the general topic of Scientific Misconduct. Their presentation will be at noon in room T-739 of the Health Sciences Center, as wll the other two lectures. On Thursday, July 27, Dr. John DesRosier, director of the School of Medicines Industry Relations Office, and Associate Dean Dorsa will speak on Conflict of Interest. On Thursday, Aug. 3, Dr. Gerald Van Belle, professor of environmental health in the School of Public Health and Comminity Medicine, will present I Mine, You Dredge: A Second Look, a topic related to his previous presentation on data collection. The series also includes four sets of case study discussion groups, which are limited to registered trainees and faculty. Registration deadline for the small group sessions is Tuesday, July 11. This summer series, along with related materials and resources, was first developed several years ago in part to meet requirements for research integrity training that are part of National Institutes of Health grants. Many of the previous years lectures have been recorded and are available for loan.
