JEOPARDY! The quiz show Jeopardy! is coming to the UW to tape its College Championship on Sept. 15 and 16 in Meany Hall. But before that happens, the show will need some contestants, so they’re holding tryouts. Full-time undergraduate students are eligible to participate in open auditions to be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4 in Red Square and 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 in Fisher Plaza, the new home of KOMO 4 television. The first 1,200 people per day will qualify for the auditions. Information about obtaining tickets for the show will be available later. PLAY ON PAPER: All Powers Necessary and Convenient, a play by Drama Professor Mark Jenkins, has been published by UW Press. The play, based on real events at the UW in 1948, tells the story of an investigation into the alleged communist activity of several professors, three of whom were later fired. The play was produced on campus two years ago to mark the 50th anniversary of the hearings.

KUDOS: Geophysics Professor Charles Raymond has received the Seligman Crystal from the International Glaciological Society. The award is given in recognition of a glaciologist’s career scientific achievements. ¶
