A search advisory committee named by UW President Richard L. McCormick has begun the process of identifying candidates for the School of Dentistry deanship. The current dean, Dr. Paul Robertson, announced in May that he plans to step down as dean as soon as a successor is recruited, but no later than June 30, 2001. He will remain on the faculty in the Department of Periodontics. McCormick asked the search committee to advertise widely and to be mindful of the Universitys strong commitment to diversity in constructing the pool of eligible candidates. At its first meeting, the committee completed drafting a job announcement for national publications. Committee members will also be seeking input from UW faculty, staff and students, as well as constituencies outside the UW. Dr. Paul G. Ramsey, vice president for medical affairs and dean of the School of Medicine, chairs the committee. Members are Dr. Anne-Marie Bollen, professor of orthodontics; John Coulter, associate vice president for medical affairs and executive director of health sciences administration; Dr. Beverly Dale-Crunk, professor of oral biology and scientific director of the Comprehensive Oral Health Research Center; Dr. David Eaton, associate dean of the School of Public Health and Community Medicine; Dr. Richard Ferguson, past president of the Washington State Dental Association and member of the School of Dentistry Admissions Committee and Deans Club Board; Dr. David Minahan, Kenmore private dental practice and Washington State Dental Association representative Dr. Sidney Nelson, dean of the School of Pharmacy: Sandra Phillips, director of clinical operations for the School of Dentistry; Dr. Murray Robinovitch, chair of the Department of Periodontics; Dr. JoAnn Taricani, professor in the School of Music; and a student not yet named. Suzanne Yoshitome, assistant to the executive director of health sciences administration, will provide administrative support for the committee. ¶ Claire Dietz University Week The faculty and staff publication of the University of Washington uweek@u.washington.edu July 20, 2000
