Too much starch? No. Student sculptures using common, everyday clothing and some stablizing wire populated the Quad recently. This sculpture features a pair of blue jeans, seemingly relaxed against a light pole. PHOTO: LW20000624_9 |

My favorite campus spot is the upper stands at Husky Ballpark, the UW baseball field. Many UW folks probably dont realize how beautiful and pastoral the parks views are. On clear days, Mt. Rainier is in plain sight, as well as a huge expanse of Lake Washington. Beyond the outfield fences, the treeline and swampy lakeside areas add to the country flavor of the setting. Bill Abelson,

This photo shows the construction laydown area on the south side of Suzzallo Library before many of the construction trailers and equipment moved in. The site, which used to be a green space with plantings, will be restored to its former beauty after construction is complete sometime in 2002. PHOTO: ML20000629_4a |
Setting up a monitoring station on the Arctic Ocean is no small undertaking. In the top photo, one of the planes that carried the researchers in is seen on the ice. Below that is a view of some of the gear needed to keep things going. Below, UW researchers James Morison and Dean Stewart are dressed for some time at the North Pole, where they helped install instruments at the new station.
