Pundt memorial set for Saturday

A memorial service for Hermann Pundt, professor emeritus of architecture and art history, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 in 147 Architecture Hall. Pundt died Sept. 15 while at his home in Donauwoerth, Germany.

A popular professor, Pundt won a Distinguished Teaching Award in 1992.

He typically taught courses in the history and appreciation of architecture, historic preservation and the Chicago School. A graduate of Harvard University, Pundt’s scholarship focused on German Neoclassicism and Romanticism, especially the Prussian architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel.

Pundt was a faculty member at the UW from 1968 until his retirement in 1996. Since retirement, he had been teaching on a reduced schedule winter and spring quarters.

He spent autumns volunteering for UNESCO’s International Council of Monuments and Sites in Central and Eastern Europe.
