Applications Sought

The UW-University of Ljubljana Exchange Program invites applications from faculty and senior graduate students to be academic visitors to the University of Ljubljana, in Slovenia, during the 2001/2002 academic year. Visitors will give some lectures and will interact with Slovene faculty and students in their field of study. The program has some funds to support travel to Slovenia, and the host institution will pay all living expenses while there. Up to two visitors, each staying for a two-week period, can be supported. Applicants should submit c.v. and letter explaining purpose and academic value of proposed visit. Deadline for applications: Wednesday, Nov.15. Public Notice

Pursuant to the provisions of WAC 197-11-510 and WAC 478-324-140, the University of Washington hereby provides public notice of the Availability of a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS)*

Project Name: University of Washington Seattle Campus Master Plan.

Lead Agency: University of Washington.

Description of Proposal: New Master Plan for the Seattle Campus for the years 2002-2012. The new plan will provide a framework for proposed development of approximately 3 million square feet consisting of 58 potentially-developable sites; includes potential addition of new open spaces, modification of the University’s Transportation Management Plan. Potential vacation of portions of 2 streets, 4 alleys and 3 aerial vacations, development standards, the DEIS analyzes three alternatives: No action, Decentralization/Open space and no street or alley vacations.

Proponent: University of Washington

Location of Proposal: The campus of the University of Washington is located in Northeast Seattle, the area of the campus is approximately 694 acres. In general the campus is bounded by NE 45th Street on the north; 15th Avenue NE, Eastlake Avenue NE and Interstate 5 on the west; Portage Bay and the Lake Washington Ship Canal on the south; and Union Bay/NE 35th Street on the west.

Copies are available at the following Seattle Public Libraries: Main, University, Wallingford, Greenlake, Fremont, Henry, Montlake and North East branches, the Campus Master Plane & Draft EIS are also on the Campus Master Plan Web site: http://www.wash-ington.edu/cmp.html.

The documents are also located at a number of on campus libraries listed on the Web page including the Odegaard Undergraduate Library, Suzzallo Library and Architecture and Urban Planning Library to name a few.

Copies are also located in the Capital Projects Office and Visitor’s Information Center, 4014 University Way NE.

Public Hearing: Two public hearings on the Draft EIS will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9. The first will be held at the University of Washington Campus Husky Union Building (HUB) room 106B; noon-12:30 p.m. - Master Plan Open House, 12:30 -2:30 p.m. - DEIS Public Hearing. The second will be held in the University of Washington Kane Hall Walker Ames Room, 6 - 7 p.m. - Master Plan Open House, 7 - 9 p.m. DEIS Public Hearing. In addition, Wednesday, December 6, 2000 there will be two Master Plan Open Houses with a Master Plan Presentation and Public Hearing. The first at University of Washington Husky Union Building (HUB), 200ABC; 11:30 - noon - Open House and noon - 2:30 p.m.- Master Plan Presentation and Public Hearing. The second will occur on the same day at the University Heights Center, 5031 University Way NE, room 209; 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. - Open House, 6 - 8:30 p.m. Master Plan Presentation and Public Hearing.

Statutes Authorizing the University to Adopt Rules on This Subject: RCW 28B.20.130, Chapter 34.05 RCW, RCW 42.17.260, 42.17.290 and 42.17.300.

Reasons Why Rules on This Subject May Be Needed and what They Might Accomplish: Amendments will update rules to reflect current University of Washington personnel titles, office names, and definitions from Washington State statutes; and to clarify language in existing rules.

Statutes Authorizing the University to Adopt Rules on This Subject: RCW 39.04.155.

Reasons Why Rules on This Subject May Be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: The current rules all refer to a statute that has been eliminated and replaced with a new one: RCW 39.04.155. The new statute also changes the dollar limit for projects to be accomplished under this method.

Public Auction of UW Surplus
Surplus property and equipment released by UW departments will be available for purchase by the general public Sat.,
Oct. 28 at an oral auction. Bidding will begin at 10 a.m. The warehouse will be open for previewing Friday, Oct. 27 from
8 a.m. through 3 p.m. Previewing can also be done 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the day of the sale. All bidders must be registered before the bidding starts. Registration can be done during the preview hours. Payment, in cash only, will be accepted until 2 p.m. on the day of the sale. Buyers are encouraged to remove their purchases on Saturday before 4 p.m. All merchandise must be removed by 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29. The surplus warehouse is located below the University Police at 1117 NE Boat Street. Parking is available along Boat Street and in the West Campus parking garage at no charge to customers on the day of the sale. Please call 685-1573 for more information.
