Nancy Hooyman, who has served as dean of the School of Social Work since 1987, has announced that she is stepping down from that position effective next Sept. 1.
Under Hooymans leadership, the school has moved to the forefront of social work education and is currently ranked No. 3 out of 140 social work programs in the nation.
Hooyman plans to take a one-year sabbatical after she steps down and then will return in September 2002 to continue her work in the teaching, research and practice of gerontology. She has been a member of the UW faculty since 1979.
A search committee will be formed soon to find a new dean for the school.
