Higher Ed Day set for Feb. 15
On Thursday, Feb. 15, the UW will participate in Higher Education Day in Olympia. Sponsored by all the four-year institutions in Washington, the annual event promotes awareness of higher-education issues in the Legislature.
The day includes institutional alumni briefings, a luncheon, legislative session updates, time for individual alumni to meet one-on-one with legislators to promote higher education, and a reception at the Governors mansion.
Higher Ed Day is also the occasion for presenting the Robert G. Waldo Award for outstanding service to higher education in Washington state. This years honoree is Richard W. Larsen, who worked for more than 20 years as a reporter and editor for the Seattle Times.
The award was established as part of the Robert G. Waldo Endowment Fund for Government Relations in honor of Waldo, who served in the University of Washington and the states higher education community for over 30 years before his death in 1995.
