Art collections and healing gardens will grow out of the conference being presented in April by the Society for the Arts in Healthcare and the UW Medical Center Art Program. Artists, art students and health-care facility staff are invited to the three-day event, titled Tools for the 21st Century: Building the Arts, to be held at the downtown Seattle Crowne Plaza Hotel. The opening night conference reception will be held at glass artist Dale Chihulys studio, and will be followed by workshops on art commissioning, integrating art with architecture, art therapy, community development and more. Other conference features will include gallery, studio and art collection tours. Artists may qualify for conference scholarships from the Washington State Arts Commission. Cost of the conference for non-members is $390 for registration before March 21. For more information, call Amy Hamblin, director of the UWMC Art Program, at (206) 598-6308.
