Grad School Council members sought

Nominations for new representatives to the Graduate School Council are now being sought. Elections will be held in early April.

“The Graduate School Council offers participating faculty members a unique opportunity to gain an overview of the University at all three of its campuses, as well as a voice in shaping policy and investment,” says John Slattery, associate dean for academic programs at the Graduate School.

The council is deeply involved in the program reviews that several programs a year undergo at the University, Slattery explains. “The reviews evaluate programs’ strengths, weaknesses and needs. The Graduate School Council studies each completed review and discusses the results with members of the department and the review committee, helping to formulate recommendations for the future.” The recommendations are then forwarded to the Provost’s office.

The council also advises the dean on policy matters and new program proposals.

There are three open positions for the Seattle campus this year: one for Arts and Humanities faculty, another for Social Science fields, and a third for Health Sciences.

Any faculty member interested in becoming a candidate for the Council or in nominating somebody else should contact Danielle Lavaque-Manty in the Graduate School office at 685-6664.
