Alzheimers public forum
A free public forum on Alzheimers disease is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 2 at the Shoreline Conference Center. Speakers will be Dr. Tom Bird, professor of neurology, on what is known about causes and Dr. James Leverenz, assistant professor of neurology and of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, on recent advances in care and treatment. The program is sponsored by the UWs Alzheimers Disease Research Center and deTornyay Center on Healthy Aging. For information, call 685-9114.
Improving your mood
Dr. Marie-Annette Brown, professor of nursing and a primary care provider at UW Medical Centers Womens Health Care Center, will be the speaker next week in the UW Women Scholars Series, sponsored by the UW Womens Center.
She will speak on Improving Your Moods: Using Light, Exercise and Vitamins from 7 to 9 p.m.. Tuesday, May 1, in Architecture Hall Auditorium on campus. Admission is free but those who wish to attend should call 685-1090 to reserve a spot.
Brown is now writing a book on the same topic as her talk. The project is called LEVITY (Light, Exercise and Vitamin Intervention Therapy). Brown and her colleagues designed and tested this simple intervention program and found that it significantly improved mood for many women.
