Levi is national A&S Fellow
Margaret Levi, the UWs Bacharach Professor of Political Science and International Studies, has been named a fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
A member of the faculty since 1974, Levi was praised by the academy as a pioneer in the modern study of comparative political economy.
She has published widely, served as organizer and energizer of many collaborations, edited several journals, and has held visiting appointments in Australia, Spain, Germany, England, Italy, France, China, and the U.S, the citation says.
Levi was the only UW faculty member among this years 211 newly elected fellows. The 220-year-old academy counts among its membership more than 160 Nobel laureates and 50 Pulitzer Prize winners.
It is not the only recognition Levi has received lately. In October, she became the inaugural recipient of the Jere L. Bacharach Endowed Professorship established by a gift of Jere Bacharach, former director of the Jackson School of International Studies. And on June 7 at Meany Hall, Levi will receive the UWs S. Sterling Munro Public Service Teaching Award, for exemplary leadership in community-based instruction.
