Correspondents to give inside scoop on election crisis
Correspondents from The New York Times will discuss the events surrounding the final days of the Presidential election in a free public forum at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 9 in 120 Kane Hall.
36 Days: The 2000 Presidential Election Crisis, will feature Adam Clymer and Sam Howe Verhovek, both of whom were in Florida covering the disputed election results from that state. The correspondents will discuss the news coverage of events in Florida and will offer post-election insights. Bryan Jones, professor of political science, and the Donald Matthews Distinguished Professor of American Politics, will moderate the forum. A reception will follow.
Verhovek is the Pacific Northwest correspondent for the Times.
Clymer has been the chief Washington correspondent at the Times since 1999. At a Labor Day 2000 rally in Naperville, Ill., then-candidate George W. Bush spotted Clymer in the crowd. Not realizing he was standing in front of an open microphone, Bush turned to his running mate, Dick Cheney, and said, Theres Adam Clymer - a major league (expletive). To which Cheney replied, Oh, yeah, big time.
The forum is co-sponsored by the UW Department of Political Science.
