New Motor Pool vehicle rental rates

|
Motor Pool vehicle rental rates are published annually and are normally adjusted each year to reflect the cost of operations, new vehicle acquisition, and vehicle maintenance. The Management Accounting and Analysis office has reviewed these rates.
Motor Pool Operations is a self-sustaining organization and rental rates are set at a level that recovers only the cost of doing business. Mileage rates are adjusted based on a projection of cost per mile for fuel, labor, repairs, and parts. The daily rates are adjusted based on the cost of vehicles, the number of vehicles operated per vehicle category during the year, and indirect overhead.
Several factors had a significant impact on rental rates:
Collision Damage Fee- Motor Pool Operations will continue the collision insurance fee at $1 per day per vehicle. This fee covers the department for vehicle collision damage losses and will continue to replace the previous policy of recharging collision damage directly to the responsible department.
UW vehicles are available for official University of Washington business only.
Study participants needed
The University of Washington Division of Internal Medicine and Childrens Hospital & Regional Medical Center Department of Adolescent Medicine is seeking healthy volunteer families to participate in a research study about the impact of chronic fatigue syndrome on adolescents in the family.
To be eligible, the mothers in the family need to be healthy, be married, and have at least one biological child between 12-17 years of age.
Participation will first involve a one-hour telephone interview with the mother to determine that she doesnt have a chronic disease or disability, or significant emotional problems. If the mother is eligible, then all members of the family will have a five-hour visit at the Childrens Hospital Clinical Research Center. Visits will be arranged at times convenient to study subjects. At the visit, all family members will have a physical examination with blood draw, will be interviewed and asked to complete questionnaires, and will undergo some brief tests of cognition and pain. Each family member will be compensated $100 for being in the study.
The Principal Investigator is Dr. Mark Smith. If youre interested in taking part in this study call the study coordinator, Cindy Evanoff at 206-521-1931 or e-mail cevanoff@u.washington.edu.

Housing Service to Close
The Visiting Faculty Housing Service, a volunteer organization which began in 1985 as a clearing house for rental housing for visiting or new faculty and scholars, will close its doors on Dec. 14.
During its tenure the office has helped thousands of visiting and new professors, lecturers, and research staff locate housing. The Seattle community has used the office as a resource to find suitable renters. Many have made donations from $10 to $50 to support the service. These funds, after defraying office expenses, have been given to the Faculty Auxiliary to be used for scholarships at the UW.
Nearly all of the current volunteers have served more than 10 years, matching visitors needs with available housing.
