The first symposium presented by the School of Medicine’s Department of Genome Sciences is set for 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, in Hogness Auditorium. Several speakers will be coming from other institutions to make presentations on the general topic “Genetic Variation in Disease and Development.” The symposium is free and open to everyone. The Department of Genome Sciences was organized last fall with a merger between the Department of Genetics, which had been within the College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Medicine’s Department of Molecular Biotechnology. Chair of the new Department of Genome Sciences is Dr. Stan Fields, professor of genome sciences and of medicine. Speakers and topics scheduled for the May 29 symposium are:
