John Michael MacPherson

John Michael MacPherson

John Michael Macpherson is this year's President's Medalist. The medal is given to the top senior in the graduating class, although this isn't necessarily the student with the highest grade point. The medalist is judged on his or her overall academic record, including grades. Macpherson was the Sophomore Medalist and has been on the Dean's List every quarter. His other awards include the Merck Index Award for the top chemistry or biochemistry major, a National Merit scholarship and a Mary Gates scholarship. Macpherson will receive a bachelor of science degree with a double major: biochemistry and applied and computational math sciences. After graduation he plans to travel extensively, then go to graduate school to study problems at the interface of biology, physics and computation. He is the son of John Macpherson of Bellingham.
