Mike graduated from Cornell University in 2011 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He decided to pursue graduate study in environmental fluid mechanics through the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at UW, where he received the 2011-2012 Charles V. "Tom" and Jean C. Gibbs Endowed Presidential Fellowship and a 2011-2012 Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation Fellowship. Outside of school, he enjoys soccer, basketball, skiing, scuba diving, guitar, concerts, and reading. His research with Jim Thomson is on remote sensing of energy dissipation from breaking ocean surface waves.
