For nearly 100 years the Faculty Auxiliary has been an active and contributing participant in life at the University of Washington. The organization continues to offer a variety of social and cultural activities to its membership and in addition provides support and service to the greater university community. The Auxiliary sponsors programs throughout the year, beginning with a Fall Reception in early October. At this event members renew acquaintances, welcome newcomers to the university and review opportunities for participating in Interest Groups. Other programs include Fall and Spring business meetings, a Scholarship Awards Dinner, a December Holiday Tea, and a Spring Luncheon. Families enjoy a traditional Holiday Dinner program in December. Monthly Dinner-Lectures held at the University of Washington Club feature speakers, musical entertainment or movies. For more information contact the Program Chair. More than 30 Interest Groups are available to members of both the Auxiliary and the UW Retirement Association. These offer a unique opportunity to meet and share interests with others associated with the UW. The groups include a variety, such as Antiques, Gallery Goers, and Book Discussion. For more information contact the Interest Group Chair. Volunteers at the Visiting Faculty Housing Service render a useful service to new and visiting UW faculty and staff requiring short or long-term housing. Since 1958 the Auxiliary has provided student scholarships. Donations to the VFHS and the Auxiliary's Scholarship fund make it possible to award a number of undergraduate scholarships annually. |
