The Department of Germanics awards a number of teaching assistantships to qualified students each year. The department provides a minimum of five years of support towards the Ph.D. to those students who first enter the program with a BA and four years of support to those who first enter with an MA.

Such support depends on continued demonstration of excellence in academic achievement and teaching performance, as well as proven commitment on the part of the student. Renewal decisions are made in accordance with the Satisfactory Progress Guidelines in Section VII.

Teaching assistants have their tuition paid by the Graduate School, but are responsible for operating and tech fees of approximately $217 per quarter.
