Beinecke Brothers Memorial Scholarships
A limited number of outstanding juniors are selected each year (in February) to represent UW in national competition for a Beinecke Brothers Memorial Scholarship. 20 students will be selected nationwide to receive this highly prestigious award to pursue graduate education in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Each Beinecke scholar receives $15,000 per year for two years of graduate study plus $2,000 upon being named a Beinecke Scholar. To be eligible a student must:
1. have demonstrated superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement, and personal promise
2. be a junior who will earn a bachelor’s degree between December of the nominating year and the following August
3. be a US citizen
4. and have a documented history of receiving need-based financial aid during his/her undergraduate years.
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange
Applicants must be US citizens, between 18-24 years old, with clear career goals and related work experience. The program is designed for young adults in business, technical, vocational, and agricultural fields, however, candidates in other fields are strongly encouraged to apply. Knowledge of German is strongly recommended.

The German Academic Exchange Service sponsors scholarships for study in Germany. Seniors, graduate students and recent PhDs are eligible to apply. Students must not have reached their 32nd birthday at time of application.

Fritz and Macfarlane
Scholarships in the Humanities
Annually two Chester William Fritz and two Elizabeth Kerr Macfarlane Scholarships in the humanities are given out to qualified students in the humanities. Eligible students to be nominated for the Fritz scholarship are full-time at the UW for at least two quarters and have demonstrated financial need. Eligible Macfarlane nominees are undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences who are enrolled full-time and who are pursuing a degree in the humanities. A department may nominate no more than two candidates for these awards by the third week of April each year. For more information contact the Undergraduate Scholarship Office.
Fulbright
The Fulbright Foundation has grants for study abroad. Applicants must be US citizens who have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but do not have a doctorate degree at the time of application. Applicants must be proficient in the language of the host country. Fulbright also offers travel grants.
German Express
Limited number of stipends awarded for the successful completion of the departmental German Express language series.

Each year students can apply for financial aid by filling out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid form.
The Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program
Candidates for the program will be competitively chosen from fields of business administration, economics, public/affairs/public policy, political science, law, journalism, and mass communications. Applications are due October 15 of the preceding year. Applicant must have a graduate degree or equivalent work experience in any one of these fields, evidence of outstanding professional performance and/or academic achievement, the ability to communicate well in German, evidence of active participation in community and/or public affairs, and be a US citizen.
