Ashwin Karnik
Year at UW: Second
About me: My name is Ashwin, and I'm a second year pre-med student. I'm passionate about the sciences, but I'm also interested in public health issues, so I'm aiming for an MD/MPH. I'm an avid Bollywood-style dancer, and I love playing tennis and video games. I'm highly involved in the South Asian community at UW through several clubs and organizations. I also love working at my genetics/diabetes research lab, traveling, and planning events for the Honors Program. If you have any questions about being pre-health, the honors program, or just finding your niche at UW, feel free to e-mail me and we can meet up and chat over coffee :)

Activities
Study Abroad: I'm going to Ecuador with Honors this summer! No matter what you're studying, studying abroad is an amazing experience.
Research: Search for jobs early, because many labs actually look for freshman so they can train them!
Volunteering/Service: There are countless groups to volunteer with at UW. My friend and I started a UW Chapter of Child Rights & You, a great organization that empowers children in India.
Leadership: Formal leadership in a club or organization gives you really important experience as a future healthcare professional.
Clubs/RSOs: Join any clubs you find appealing!
Scholarships: Free money? Sounds like a good deal. There are great scholarships in the honors program, but there are tons outside of honors as well.
