Application Information
There are two Honors Degrees available to students at the UW: College Honors and Departmental Honors. The first step in applying is to choose which degree best suits your interests and needs.
Applying to COLLEGE HONORS
- Entering freshman applicants apply to the University of Washington and to the UW College Honors Program simultaneously. To apply as a freshman applicant, please see information below as well as this link: Application Instructions .
- Students who are already enrolled at the UW may apply for Late Admission into the College Honors program during spring quarter of their freshman year. Each spring quarter, we accept applications from current freshmen and issue invitations to those who have demonstrated academic excellence during their first two quarters at the university. If you believe this option best fits your needs, please contact an Honors advisor for more information.
-
Applying to DEPARTMENTAL HONORS
- Another way to experience Honors is through your major. Typically, a student applies for departmental admission in his or her junior year of college, although some majors have earlier entrance options. Departmental Honors is an excellent option, providing academic challenges and scholarly community similar to the College Honors experience. Please see the Departmental Honors page for more information about this Honors track.
-
Applying as a TRANSFER STUDENT
- Transfer students who have participated in honors programs elsewhere or who have unusually good college academic records and have not completed a majority of their general education requirements may be interested in joining the Full College Honors Program. Those interested in entering the Honors Program must wait until they have been admitted to the University of Washington before applying to Honors.
- Students interested in applying are encouraged to enroll in Honors courses available to both non-Honors and College Honors students. Enrollment in these courses depends entirely upon a student’s qualifications and aptitude in the subject matter. Examples of these types of courses are the Honors Chemistry, Math, and Physics sequences. See an Honors advisor regarding which Honors courses might be available to you before you join the program.
Freshman Applicants

- If you are an international applicant, please visit the UW Admissions International website for your application instructions.
- You must follow the links below for complete Application Instructions as well as helpful tips.
