Center on Human Development and Disability

Mission:

The Center on Human Development and Disability (CHDD) at the University of Washington makes important contributions to the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families through a comprehensive array of research, clinical services, training, community outreach, and dissemination activities.

Who We Are:

The Center on Human Development and Disability (CHDD) is an interdisciplinary research and training center focusing on an array of developmental disabilities, and providing programs and services to the community. The Center on Human Development and Disability is made up of two major programs, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center and the University Center for Excellence in Development Disabilities. The center is housed in a multi-building complex including Medical Research Building, the Haring Center Experimental Education Unit, the South Building, and the Clinic Building.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center: This center has a focus on scientific core facilities, studying the causes of developmental disabilities and treatment techniques. The interdisciplinary focus of these scientific core facilities includes behavioral science, brain imaging, cellular murphy, genetic, the Infant Primate Research Laboratory, and the Instrument Development Laboratory.

University Center for Excellence in Development Disabilities: This center is part of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) to provide clinical services, technical assistance, and training to the community. The center is made up of many programs including the Center on Infant Mental Health and Development, the Autism Center, the Center for Technology and Disability Studies, the Clinical Training Unit, the Community Disability Policy and the Haring Center/Experimental Education Unit (EEU).
