Quellos High Throughput Screening Core

Essential Instrumentation and Equipment -New Additions-

If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.
- Abraham Maslow

In keeping with the quote indicated above, we've acquired new instrumentation to augment the facility's functional capacity…

Fluid-X Xrd384 Dispenser / Stacker

This Fluid-X Dispenser/Stacker is similar to the Core's existing WellMate instrument but differs in critical mechanical/application/performance instances. This new dispenser is a high-speed, small footprint, 8- or 16-channel fluid dispenser for delivering samples/reagents efficiently to 6, 12, 24, 48, 96, 384 and now including 1536-well microplates. Acquisition of this instrument will aid the facility's move to this higher density standard and correspondingly enable less expensive alternatives to instituting high throughput screens.

Beckman Coulter Biomek FX

The Core's newly acquired liquid handler currently capable of transferring samples in 96-well (with tip or pin tools) and soon able to service 384-well formats with a recently acquired manifold head. Existence of a plate carousel bestows this speedy instrument with a designation as the best "athlete" in the facility. Used predominantly for RNAi assays, this instrument will see serious time reformatting compound libraries.

Screening Libraries -New Additions-

What is a scientist after all? It is a curious man looking through a keyhole, the keyhole of nature, trying to know what's going on.
- Jacques Yves Cousteau

The Quellos High Throughput Screening Core listens to its clients and made new acquisitions aimed to serve as the new "keyholes" for your research endeavors.

Chemical Library Additions:

FDA Approved Oncology Drug Set

The Drug Therapeutic Program at the NCI/NIH provides a set of 85+ compounds comprising the FDA Approved Drugs used in Cancer Chemotherapy. The Quellos High Throughput Screening Core has reformatted this set of compounds to enable rapid screening for potency and sensitivity determinations against client provided cell lines of interest. Please contact the Core facility for more information. Availability: NOW.

MicroSource Discovery Systems' Spectrum Collection

In response to multiple requests by our clients, the QHTS Core has added the Spectrum Collection from MicroSource Discovery Systems. The Spectrum Collection is a 2000 compound set made up of known drugs (50% with designations from USP, USAN, INN, BAN and JAN), Natural Products (30%) and other bioactive components (20%). This collection was selected by medicinal chemists and biologists to offer a wide range of biological activities and structural diversity. Such content provides our clients the opportunity to explore and evaluate drugs and known biochemical tools on systems of their choice. Availability: Early July '10

RNAi Library Additions:

siRNA Druggable Genome

In order to service the increasing siRNA discovery efforts of our clients, human and mouse druggable genome collections are being added to the Cores existing siRNA collection (e.g., kinome). Each library consists of between 6500 and 7000 genes depending on species. For more information, please contact the core. Availability: September '10

Now accepting screening applications:

The Quellos High Throughput Screening Core is accepting applications to utilize the core facility for RNA Interference and/or Chemical (Small Molecule) Library screening. Just fill out the application form (i.e., the link provided below) and click "Submit" for your project's consideration.

Screening Application for RNA Interference or Chemical Modulation

Quellos Research Acceleration Awards:

The HTS Core has provided a mechanism whereby accepted screening projects can be subsidized by a Quellos Research Acceleration Award. Please visit the provided link for more information about these awards.
