New Optional Practical Training (OPT) Rule
A new OPT rule went into effect April 8, 2008. It changed several key aspects of OPT, including updated application procedures, an extension benefit, reporting requirements, and more. Visit our Optional Practical Training section for more information. Though these new rules are in place, there are still procedural processes to work out and details to clarify. We are continuing to receive guidance from the Department of Homeland Security. Keep checking for updates.

Greetings!
We provide immigration and cross-cultural advising to students and scholars from abroad, support academic departments that sponsor overseas visitors for teaching or research, and serve as liaison to government agencies involved in international education. Through these activities we bring the world to our campus, applying a global dimension to all aspects of University endeavor.
The information in the ISS website is for the use of the University of Washington community. Some of it is very general and some is specific to the UW.
