School of Social Work
The UW School of Social Work, part of the health sciences, has over 50 faculty, 100 undergraduates, 330 masters students, and 30-40 doctoral students. It offers a concurrent degree program leading to both an MSW and an MPH degree. The school has an unusually large research component, much focused on health issues, including AIDS, violence, substance abuse, and mental health. The research program includes centers such as the Social Development Research Group and the NIMH-funded Prevention Center. Much of this work is conducted in community settings, rather than clinical populations, using rigorous intervention trials and long-term prospective cohort studies.
