Graduate Degrees
We will encourage most applicants who do not have a strong background in clinical research to take joint courses at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine (SPHCM). Many students will find it advantageous to complete a curriculum that will lead to a Master degree (M.S., M.P.H.). However, the core curriculum will also include many courses and seminars separate from SPHCM. Some Scholars may wish to pursue obtaining a doctorate degree as well.
However, the opportunity to obtain an advanced is absolutely optional. Many Scholars may already have a master degree in addition to their doctorate. Other Scholars may feel that this type of degree does not fit with their best interests. Scholars are free to explore other graduate degree options if they can effectively fit it in with their curriculum, research interests, and clinical responsibilities.
If you have interest in obtaining a graduate degree (M.S., M.P.H., Ph.D.), please indicate your interest on the application form. However, please understand that you are ultimately responsible for making two additional applications (besides this one): one to the Graduate School, and a second to the specific department of interest.
