High-Speed Data Connectivity, DSLUW Medical Center's Teleservices department, in partnership with Information Technology Services (ITS) and Verizon, now make it easy for patients, families, and visitors to connect to the internet during their stay at UW Medical Center. The internet connection is an IP DSL service, a switchable service through the UW Medical Center telephone system. Service is available in most rooms and some common areas. Activating the DSL Port
NOTE: Patients must have their own laptop or computer to connect to the internet via DSL or DIAL UP. Follow these 5 easy steps: Bring Your Laptop!
Patients and patient family members may bring their personal computers to the medical center. For your safety, these devices must be in good physical condition in the judgment of your nurse. Computers are restricted in the ICU and OR's. The computer or laptop must be equipped with a "NIC" card. The laptop user will need to know how to set up the network properties on their computer, which need to be configured for DHCP. DSL jacks can be found in the following locations:
You must receive authorization from the patient's nurse. The nurse may inspect the computer and any accessories to ensure that they are in good physical condition and it's appropriate to allow use of the computer in the intended location per UWMC policy. This service is NOT connected to the existing ethernet network used throughout the medical center and will not affect the day-to-day information flow. |
