3.1. Why should I get an alpha-numeric pager?
The Teleservices computer system can process pages to alpha pages much more efficiently. They are needed for group alerts during disaster. In addition, they give the user more information about their pages.

3.2. If a pager is ordered for a new staff member, are they automatically added into the staff paging directory?
No, for someone to be added to the staff paging directory, Steve Weygint must be notified at 598-6050 or via e-mail at comcntr@u.washington.edu.

3.3. What should I do if my pager gets wet?
If your pager gets wet immediately remove the battery and set your pager in a warm place, like on top of your computer. Let the pager dry for several hours before trying to put the battery back in. If you fail to remove the battery the pager will be permanently damaged.

3.4. Can I get a replacement pager with the same number, 24-hours a day/7 days a week?
No. USA Mobility is only open from 8:00 until 5:00 Monday-Friday. If your pager breaks outside of normal business hours you will need to pick up a loaner pager from our office to use until USA Mobility is re-opens.

3.5. What is the range of the standard USA Mobility pager?

3.6. What is the process to get a nationwide pager?
You should call 598-6367 ahead of time to make sure that we have a nationwide spare available. If we have one available you can come to NE-165 to pick it up.

3.7. Does Teleservices have the technology to switch my pages to a colleague's pager when I sign out to him or her?
No. It is not a contracted service that USA Mobility provides.

4.1. What phone numbers are considered local from the hospital?
All numbers called to 206, 253, and 425 area codes will go through as a local call (dial: 9-xxx-xxx-xxxx). Many 360 numbers will also go through as a local call, but not all fall under that umbrella. The UW has a system called the Regional Calling Serivce (RCS) where these Western Washington area codes/phone numbers can be called from UWMC or UW campus, and will be processed as a local call (no charge).

4.2. How do I get a UWATS authorization code so that I can make long distance calls?
UWATS authorization codes are issued by Computing & Communications on campus. Call 221-5000 and someone will assist you.

5.1. What number should I call if a TV on my floor is not working properly?
You should call 598-6970. The person who answers the phone will write a trouble ticket and the first technician available will respond.

6.1. I don't see my name and information in the UW Medical Center Directory, how can I add myself for next year?
Send an email to uwmcdir@u.washington.edu. Please include your name, phone number, box number, email address, department, and job title.
