Materials Science and Engineering

Daisy Zavala is a senior in Materials Science & Engineering, with research interests in applying the foundation of materials science to improving material’s structural and functional performance in applications of aerospace, energy, medical, and automotive industries. She hopes that she can inspire students to pursue an academic path that results from their curiosity and interests, especially those of disadvantaged backgrounds.

Daisy has conducted research in biomechanics in Dr. Susan Herring’s lab for the last three years and at UW and UCSB conducting research in materials science. When not conducting research, Daisy enjoys contributing to the Washington Hyperloop team on the chassis subteam, where she works hands-on in prototype engineering.
