Erika Arias

International Studies / Law, Societies and Justice

 

Erika Arias is a senior from Chelan, Washington currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies as well as Law, Societies and Justice. Through her understanding of global affairs, Erika wants to work towards progressive change. This summer, she will be interning at the U.S.-Mexico Foundation in Mexico where she will work on contributing to the growth of small businesses of indigenous origin. She recently completed a research project focusing on the economic policies the U.S. put in place towards Argentina during the Argentine Dirty War. Apart from her research project concerning Argentina, Erika is a part of the Newbook Digital Texts research team and transcribes texts from the late 19th – early 20th century Ottoman Empire. She hopes to educate others on topics and issues she is passionate about. In the future, she would like to focus on research that will help raise awareness on international issues and focus on foreign policy, such as U.S. influence in developing countries or foreign policy methods taken to combat human rights violations. Erika plans to pursue a doctoral degree in international relations with a focus on foreign policy. She is involved in UW’s Undergraduate Research Leaders, is a First-Year Interest Group Leader, and is a Brotman Diversity Scholar.
