Richard Kim Receives Medical Staff TLC Award

Medical Staff Teamwork Leadership Caring Award: March, 2009

The UWMC Provider Recognition Committee commends and congratulates Richard Kim, MD, for being selected as a recipient of the March Medical Staff TLC Award.

Dr. Kim was nominated by colleagues who stated:
“"Dr. Kim recently responded to a code on 8NE and was the team leader. His care in leading this code was excellent. Dr Kim was very clear in his direction, truly led the code with clear and concise direction. He demonstrated clear awareness of each person’s role in the room at the time of the event and encouraged staff team work. The outcome of the code was unfortunate. At the time Dr. Kim called the end of the code, he demonstrated respectfulness for the deceased patient by having the entire team stand at the bedside and observe a moment of silence together. He then went out to the family of the deceased patient and informed them of the outcome in a calm, supportive, and professional manner. He knelt down next to the family and explained the circumstances. He afforded them opportunity to ask questions and offered support and his sincerest condolences.

His clinical excellence and bedside manner are among the best we as a team on 8NE have ever worked with."



“Richard is an amazing physician who is very team-oriented -- involving nurses, therapists, students in the care of patients and valuing their input.

He always puts patients' well-being first. He provides patient-centered care which includes the patients' families and significant others.

In addition, he is a superlative clinician who is a gifted teacher as well.”
