On average there are 6 new patients scheduled each week, as well as 24-30
follow-up patients. The attendings who staff the clinic see the follow-ups,
and the new patients are seen initially by the resident or the Hematology/Oncology
fellow. Approximately 30% patients have a hematologic problem, and 70%
have a solid tumor. This an excellent way to become familiar with the
diagnosis and initial evaluation of common solid tumors such as lung cancer,
breast cancer, and colon cancer. There is a post-clinic conference from
4:30-5:30 at which the new patients are presented and discussed.
Objectives
Develop confidence in the work-up of anemia, thrombocytopenia, and in
the evaluation of a variety of solid tumors.
