Weight Regulation Diagnostic & Evaluation Center at Harborview
Patients require evaluation, diagnosis, management suggestions, and education for disorders of weight regulation. Included are patients with diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease complicated by excessive weight gain and obesity. Patients with wasting conditions such as anorexia, cachexia related to cancer, AIDS, or rheumatoid arthritis are also considered appropriate for this clinic. Emphasis is placed on an integrated approach, requiring lifestyle modifications including diet and physical activity. The goal is enhancement of activities of daily living. Pharmacologic therapy may be offered on a limited basis when indicated and available or referral for surgical evaluation if appropriate. Patients are required to have a BMI over 25 with co-morbid conditions such as HTN, DM, cardiac disease and endocrine issues. A referral from a primary care provider is required and at the completion of the referral process, care will be transferred back to the primary care provider.
