UWMC Secondary & Refractory Hypertension
DescriptionThe Hypertension clinic sees patients referred from all over the Northwest, mostly for poorly controlled, resistant, and/or complex hypertension issues. Residents will see one to two new patients weekly, plus follow up on returns from previous new clinic visits as time permits. Educational Goals and ObjectivesOur aim is to educate residents about pathogenisis, pathophysiology, work-up and management of hypertension by focusing on difficult to control primary and secondary hypertension within the context of other complex medical, social, emotional and financial factors. The management is based on lifestyle modifications and appropriate choice of medications based on hemodynamics, underlying condition and co-morbidities. A large number of our patients have secondary hypertension thus residents learn about workup and management of these conditions. |
