Who should I contact for schedule changes?

Joe Merrill, MD

This 1-month rotation is designed for residents who plan a career working in Addiction Medicine or who want to improve their approach to patients who have problems with substance abuse. They will be trained in a variety of techniques for assessing and treating substance addicted patients. This training will take place by working in a variety of settings, including the in-patient Addiction Treatment Center (ATC) at the VA, the Suboxone Clinic at Harborview, and Madison Clinic. Additional didactic experiences will expose residents to ongoing research into addiction at the UW, groups of recovering patients in the community, and motivational interviewing techniques with psychologists at Harborview.

A few things about VA parking:
  • A shuttle no longer runs between the UW and the VA.
  • On-site parking for employees is limited (see link below). The new parking garage is for patients only (and restricted physician parking for permitted vehicles). Some off-site parking can be found in the neighborhoods around the medical center, but caution is advised due to theft/break-ins.

Evergreen Treatment Services

  • For your planning, we ask you to arrive by 7AM. Ask for Jacquelyn Brolsma, ARNP, at the front desk when you arrive.
  • You can expect to be here until around 10:30-11AM, depending on your interest and provider's schedules. You will have the opportunity to observe Medical Intakes that begin at 8:30. You will also have a chance to observe the registered nurses dispensing methadone to patients and also observe some other medical appointments. We'll also spend time talking about the clinic services, etc. The first visit focuses on the medical aspect of medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorders and the second week visit usually involves time with the counseling aspects of treatment, including motivational interviewing.
  • This map shows parking around ETS. The green highlighted areas are available on a "first come first served" basis. The red highlighted areas are where parking is not allowed because it is either time-limited or reserved for other nearby organizations. (Be sure NOT to jaywalk across Airport Way, as patients and staff have been ticketed!)
